Mindful Congress

Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) asks Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius if she's aware of the tremendous stress-reduction benefits of mindfulness meditation. This is the fundamental solution to the health care crisis - teach people how to stay calm and centered, and stop flushing their bodies with corrosive stress hormones that handicap the immune system.
Of course, sitting down to observe your own mind is much harder than just taking a pill. And it's harder to prescribe, because success depends completely on the patient's effort.
If I were in charge, I would take the money for a couple fancy jets and use it to establish mindfulness meditation / yoga programs in every elementary school. It's much easier to start mindfulness practice when the mind is still young and malleable. Adult minds get so encrusted with habits and beliefs!-----------
